TREE PLANTING
CONSULTATION

Selecting the right species of tree to plant requires an intimate knowledge of species and local growing environments. Let our arborists help assist you in choosing the right tree for your needs.

PRUNING

Proper tree and shrub pruning demands an understanding of plant structure, biology, and aesthetics. Our certified arborists specialize in pruning all levels of Portland’s tree canopy, from mature maples and Douglas fir down to delicate Japanese maples.

Timely, careful pruning is an essential part of responsible tree care. We follow guidelines established through decades of research by the International Society of Arboriculture, techniques proven to improve a tree’s health and enhance its beauty.

Depending on the needs of a homeowner and the target tree, our pruning may include any of the following steps:

  • Correcting any previous poor pruning

  • Removing deadwood and diseased wood

  • Selectively removing crossing branches

  • Raising the crown to provide more space under the tree

  • Thinning the tree to create more light and air flow

In any given year, no more than 25% to 33% of a tree can be removed through pruning. Mature trees, in particular, are vulnerable to excessive pruning. Our experts will prune only as much as is safe to ensure that you enjoy the tree’s beauty for years to come.

We also care for the many smaller shrubs and hedges that grow so well in the Pacific Northwest, including rhododendrons and camellias.

CABLING

Proper cabling techniques can extend the life of trees with poor structure or weakened limbs. Although not all trees meet specific criteria in regards to cabling, whenever possible it is a practice we employ to save a tree rather than cut it down. And our cabling system relies on non-invasive techniques, so it won’t further compromise the integrity of your tree.

REMOVAL

We love trees and truly appreciate the important role they play in enhancing our urban environment. Sometimes, however, a tree must be removed because it is hazardous, the incorrect size for its space, or in declining health. Our ISA-certified arborists will efficiently and safely identify and remove such trees, exercising utmost care to protect nearby structures, other plants, and people.

SOIL
AMENDING

Having the proper pH balance and fertility will ensure that your trees and plants reach their potential. Our crews can quickly assess your soil and provide proper recommendations for any measures needed to provide the ideal soil for your trees or plants.
